Stewardship Handbook
As Ambassadors for Christ, the Virginia Synod Stewardship Committee helps people experience the exciting possibilities as children of God, growing in faith, and understanding that life is a gift from God to be celebrated and shared.
The Stewardship Committee’s mission is to create and nurture generous giving of one’s time, talent and resources by:
1. developing and delivering educational opportunities for individuals,
committees, councils, and congregations;
2. assisting congregations in establishing a stewardship committee and
introducing various stewardship practices and opportunities;
3. promoting Evangelical Lutheran Church in America stewardship resources;
4. presenting synod-wide educational workshops;
5. publicizing new ideas, resources, and trends in stewardship.
The following five broad synodical goals were established to guide the committee's activities:
1. Encourage actions within each congregation to ensure that their mission and the purpose of their ministries are clear and well understood by the members of the congregations.
2. Promote Synod-wide, year-round stewardship of life programs to achieve better understanding of stewardship as a lifestyle.
3. Take actions to further establish a culture of gratitude and thanksgiving in every congregation.
4. Promote a broader understanding of the stewardship-for-life resources available to congregations to assist them in their improvement activities.
5. Promote an emphasis aimed at shifting societal values from accumulation to sharing.
