DESCRIPTION:Is God calling you to rostered\, public ministry in the church? Are you wondering what “rostered\, public ministry” even is?! The Virginia Synod Vocations Conference allows persons discerning God’s call to spend time in reflection and conversation around call\, gifts for ministry\, and the Candidacy process in the ELCA. \nDue to COVID-19\, this year’s Conference will be on Zoom. We’ll begin with a 90-minute session with Welcome and a Panel Discussion with First-Call Rostered Ministers (pastors and deacons in their first 3 years of ministry). Following a 30 minute break\, we will gather again\, this time in small groups for a 60 minute Q&A. If you sign up for our email list you can expect: \n\nA daily devotional to arrive in your email each weekday morning\, Monday through Friday. Here you’ll receive readings\, brief videos\, and guides for at-home arts and crafts.\nAn invitation to a daily Zoom workshop\, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM\, Monday through Friday. DESCRIPTION:On June 17th\, 2015\, Dylann Roof\, a member on the rolls of St. Paul Lutheran Church – ELCA\, entered Mother Emanuel AME  church in Charleston\, SC for a prayer meeting. He proceeded to shoot and kill nine of the people in attendance in an act born of white supremacy and racial hatred.\n\nLast summer\, at our Churchwide assembly\, the ELCA voted and approved a resolution to set aside June 17th as a Day of Remembrance and Repentance for the Emanuel 9. Acting on this resolution\, the Virginia Synod’s Tapestry team is hosting a Zoom meeting on Wednesday\, June 17th\, 2020 at 7:00 PM for a time of remembering the Emanuel 9\, an action step to take\, and a prayer. DESCRIPTION:The Ambassadors Community for Theological Study is intended to enrich and equip laity for intentional service as ambassadors for Christ in homes\, churches\, and in their communities. It provides comprehensive exposure to the foundations of Lutheran faith through classroom and experiential education. \n The Primary Goals of ACTS are:\n\nTo increase in laity the ability to intentionally live and share the Christian faith.\nTo develop in laity a fuller understanding of the Bible\, the theology of our church\, and the practice of ministry.\nTo equip in laity leadership in special areas of ministry and service as ambassadors for Christ.\nEncourage large groups to enroll from one congregation or parish. DESCRIPTION:The ELCA Churchwide Assembly\, the primary decision-making body of the church\, is a process of communal spiritual discernment. Finding ourselves in Christ\, the fifteenth Churchwide Assembly will be a time for us to be the living body of Christ guided by the Spirit and conformed to God’s will. \nWe will meet at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\, August 5-10\, 2019 to discuss and make decisions about how to go about God’s work as a church. This year the assembly will gather under the theme “We are church.” \nWhen the ELCA Churchwide Assembly convenes\, its voting members meet with confidence in God’s grace around word and water\, wine and bread\, to carry on their work on behalf of the entire church.
