SUMMARY:“From Crib to Cross” Lutheran-Episcopal Retreat
DESCRIPTION:All rostered ministers and seminarians of the Virginia Synod are invited to a retreat June 24-26\, 2019 in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley to meet with other clergy and leaders of the Episcopal Church as we continue to live into our full communion partnership. Our guest speakers are Dr. Timothy Wengert of Philadelphia Seminary and Dr. Alyson Barnett-Cowan of the Anglican Church of Canada. Both speakers will help us explore the theological impulses of our traditions (the “Crib” and the “Cross”) and how our distinctions help us understand our own traditions better. There will be time for conversation among participants as well as free time and activities. SUMMARY:Ask\, Thank\, Tell: Growing Generous Stewardship
DESCRIPTION:The Virginia Synod and the Presbytery of the James are offering a one-day Stewardship education event with Charles R Lane\, the author of “Ask\, Thank\, Tell” and “Embracing Stewardship” at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church in Richmond on Saturday\, March 23\, 2019\, from 9 AM until 3 PM.  The cost of the event is $15 per person. \nThere is time built into the schedule from 2 PM to 3 PM for congregational groups to work together on specific ideas for their congregation\, so plan to bring a team.  If you are registering more than one person\, fill out the “Attendee #1 Info” and then click the “Add Attendee” button at the end of that section to register additional attendees.  For a look at the outline of the day\, download the Ask\, Thank\, Tell: Growing Generous Stewardship Preliminary Schedule. \nFor this event\, you have two options to participate.  You can register and participate in-person or by simulcast. For those who plan to attend in-person\, please select the “Ask\, Thank\, Tell: In-Person” ticket and make sure to let us know if you have dietary restrictions for lunch.  For those planning to attend through the online simulcast\, please select the “Ask\, Thank\, Tell: Simulcast” ticket.  A link to access the event will be emailed to you after registration. \nRegistration for the in-person participation closes on Monday\, March 13.  Registration for the simulcast closes on Thursday\, March 21. \n\nOnline Registration\n\n\nIf you have any questions about the event\, please feel free to contact Pastor John Wertz\, Jr. at wertz@vasynod.org or or Dr. Deborah Rexrode at: deborah@presbyteryofthejames.org.

DESCRIPTION:The Virginia Synod Vocations Conference\nEagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center\n \nAnyone discerning a call to rostered ministry is encouraged to attend the Vocations Conference – the sooner in your discernment\, the better equipped you will be to prayerfully consider how God is calling you to use your faith gifts through your vocational call. \nThe Virginia Synod Vocations Conference allows persons who are wondering what professional ministry in the church is like to spend time with those who have experience within the church. It allows time for reflection\, conversations\, and questions concerning one’s call and gifts for ministry through ample opportunities for fellowship and free time. It provides a retreat setting for helping individuals discern their gifts for ministry. \nINQUIRERS: If you feel God calling you to public leadership in the church\, you should attend the Vocations Conference! Please speak with your pastor or deacon\, who is also invited to attend with you. \nPASTORS and DEACONS: If you know of someone who has expressed interest\, or may be interested in becoming a pastor or deacon\, please get that person to the Vocations Conference!
