The Asian and Pacific Islander Association of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), has issued a statement addressing the increase in violence directed toward Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The ELCA Conference of Bishops affirmed the statement during their virtual meeting.
Speaking on the statement, Bishop Humphrey said, “In our March meeting the ELCA Conference of Bishops offered support for an important statement on an alarming rise in anti-Asian and Pacific Islander racism and violence in our country. As a church and as individuals, it is important for us to speak clearly about our Lord’s call to love all and reject any hint of support, acceptance or sympathy concerning racism or violence.”
