On behalf of the Virginia Synod Council, members of the Office of the Bishop staff have traveled across the Virginia Synod over the past several months to present the 2026 Serving Boldly Awards to this year’s recipients.
The Serving Boldly Award recognizes a lay leader who embodies the gospel of Jesus Christ through their commitment and service to their congregation and/or community. One recipient is selected from each conference partnership.
Throughout the past several months, this year’s recipients have been honored in their own congregations:
- Cheryl Wolfe received the 2026 Serving Boldly Award from Assistant to the Bishop Rebecca Walls on Sunday, June 14, at Our Saviour, Virginia Beach.
- Mike Moffitt received the 2026 Serving Boldly Award from Pastor Colleen Hetrick on Sunday, July 31, at Christ, Fredericksburg.
- Larry Heishman received the 2026 Serving Boldly Award from Bishop Phyllis Milton on Sunday, August 9, at Faith, Fort Valley.
- Pidge Morgan received the 2026 Serving Boldly Award from Bishop Phyllis Milton on Sunday, October 11, at Trinity, Moneta.
Join us in celebrating these lay leaders and giving thanks for the ways they live out the gospel through their faithful service to their congregations and communities!
