On Saturday, October 21, the Virginia Synod gathered at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro with Bishop Elizabeth Eaton (Presiding Bishop of the ELCA), Synod Bishops from around the ELCA, and ecumenical guests to celebrate the Installation of Rev. Dr. Phyllis Blair Milton as the fourth Bishop of the Virginia Synod, ELCA. All three Bishop Emeriti (Rev. Robert Humphrey, Rev. James Mauney, and Rev. Richard Bansemer) of the Virginia Synod were present to participate in the installation service. Officers from the Lutheran Youth Organization, Synod Council members, and Candidacy Committee members served in leadership roles in worship. Ryan-Michael Blake (Director of Music at First Lutheran Church in Norfolk) served as the music director for the service and Greta Melson (Minister of Music at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Yorktown) assisted in leadership of the music for worship.

Following the service, all were invited to a reception at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
