Principle: People give to ministry, not to bills and budgets.
While it is true that some people are motivated by a sense of duty and obligation to pay the bills, most people are motivated by community, compassion and hope, so help people to know your congregation’s ministry stories.
Action Ideas:
- Use ministries stories in your sermon each week
- Include the ‘Offering’ in Digital Worship in which tell a story of ministry and say ‘Because of your generosity, this ministry is happening. Thank You’
- Add a “Ministry Moment” with pictures to your digital worship
- If you are having parking lot worship, put up a banner acknowledging a ministry with an appropriate visual near the entrance/exit to the parking lot
- If you are doing in-person worship, create a bulletin board/poster/video presentation telling a ministry story for worshipers to see as they enter the sanctuary
- Invite someone from the congregation to share a ministry story during worship
- Create a theme Sunday that highlights a particular ministry
- Lead your Digital/Print Newsletter with a story of ministry being accomplished during the pandemic
- Highlight a Synod or Churchwide ministry in your Digital/Print Newsletter to show a connection to the wider world
- With permission, tell a story of an individual living out their faith during the pandemic
