Bishop Milton and the voting members from the Virginia Synod attended the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Phoenix from July 28–Aug. 2, 2025.
The ELCA Churchwide Assembly, the primary decision-making body of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is a process of communal spiritual discernment. This assembly featured a number of important elections and actions including the election of a new Presiding Bishop of the ELCA and the election of two individuals from the Virginia Synod to Churchwide positions. Jillian Stierwalt was elected to the ELCA Church Council and the Rev. Adam C. Shultz was elected to the Committee on Discipline.
