Virginia Synod Virtual “Tongues of Fire” 5K

The Virginia Synod invites you to join us in your home or neighborhood for a Virtual 5k on Sunday May 31!
We all wish we could be together. It’s at this time of year when we’d be excitedly preparing to gather as the Synod for our annual Synod Assembly. We’re maybe feeling cooped up inside, so let’s do something together to get moving! Let’s safely steward our bodies as we share an event as the Body of Christ and join in prayer along the way.

How will this work?

  • Between now and May 31st form a team with your congregation, and name a team captain. Your team captain will report in with your roster and details. You can run, walk, jog, or even cheerlead as part of the 5K. If you plan to participate on your own, you will serve as your own team captain and can sign yourself up!
  • Cheerleaders will not physically compete but will root and pray for those participating the whole way! Dress up, make an encouraging sign, be a positive force for those competing on your team!
  • Between now and May 31st, limber up! Get some daily walking or jogging in. Start building up to completing 3.2 miles, or maybe beating your own personal record.
  • You can join in the conversation about your training on our Facebook Event page! Share how you’re training, your personal training playlist, and what keeps you motivated as we prepare for May 31st.

For Race Day on May 31st:

You will be walking, jogging, running, or cheering along 3.2 miles in your own home or neighborhood.  You can do that on your own course, on your treadmill, etc. You will have 24 HOURS TO COMPLETE your race (you may start at any time). Once finished, you will then report to your captain with your finishing time and any photos. Remember to drink water and be safe!
Be sure to share photos and stories of your training and race on social media using the hashtag #tonguesoffire5K and email them to Emily Pilat at pilat@vasynod.org
We will be sharing an opening litany prayer and a closing prayer for you to use at the start and finish lines later this month. Final Results and superlative awards will be shared in the Weekly Update the following Tuesday.
