What is Coaching?
Coaching is an intentional relationship helping individuals and congregations connect their dreams to concrete actions that create change and growth. Coaching operates from a core belief that each person or congregation (client) is beloved of God, has been gifted by God in an abundance of ways, and is invited by God into God’s work of loving and healing the world.
A Coaching relationship is distinct from other relationships.
- Counseling or therapy focuses on healing hurts from the past.
- Mentoring provides an opportunity for a more experienced person to walk alongside and give advice.
- Consulting occurs when an expert is invited to listen, learn, and suggest the best path forward.
- Coaching is for anyone who is looking to turn ideas into action.
What does Coaching look like?
Connecting dreams to concrete actions that create change, growth, and transformation.
A coach helps to provide accountability while encouraging clients to celebrate successes.
A coach asks powerful questions to help their client explore and discover:
- What they really value and their gifts
- What they want to accomplish and their motivation
- How they are going to do it through setting goals
- What steps they need to take to achieve results
- What resources they can tap into
- What obstacles may need to be overcome
- What their next steps will be
The length of the coaching relationship and the compensation for the coach are negotiated by the coach and the client before the coaching relationship begins.
