Principle: People succeed when they develop plans and create accountability
Here are a series of guiding questions you can use to coach yourself or your team into taking action of one of the Four Tips for Strengthening Stewardship during the Pandemic. The initial questions in each section are designed to help you develop a plan that will allow you to put that tip into action in your congregation. The final question invites you to create accountability by selecting the date when the action will be taken. Once you have the date, you can work backwards to determine when the steps in your plan need to be completed. Don’t try to do all four tips at once. Pick one tip that seems helpful for your context and start there.

Guiding Questions to Turn Ideas into Action

Say Thank You

  • How do you currently say “Thank You” as a congregation or area of ministry?
  • What opportunity do you see to add a “Thank You” to your ministry?
  • Whose help do you need to share this new “Thank You”?
  • When is this “Thank You” going to happen?

Tell Ministry Stories

  • What is one ministry story you get excited about?
  • Who does the best job of telling that story?
  • How could you effectively share that story with ministry stakeholders?
  • When will the story be shared?

Consider a Targeted Ask

  • Name 4 or 5 informal leaders or key ministries in congregation.
  • Divide the congregation into groups built around each of those informal leaders or key ministries.
  • How would you ask a specific individual in each group for financial support for the congregation’s ministry?
  • Pick the date when you are going to ask each group for support in the same way that you’d ask that individual.

Open Digital Giving Doors

  • How many people currently use digital giving options?
  • What behavioral nudge is needed to invite current givers to increase their giving in 2021?
  • What do non-digital givers say is a barrier to digital giving?
  • What change could we make to help lower identified barriers to digital giving?
  • When are we going to make this change and who is going to help make it happen?
